Seguiriya shares the same beat structure with many other others and the similarity starts and ends there. The compas structure has such a peculiar accent pattern that it is almost futile to count 12 beats to make sense of it. Some suggest using the beat pattern and start counting at 8 so that the accents repeat the ones used in the other.

A basic seguiriya rhythm, played here with cajon and palmas. The compas of the seguiriya can be counted in a number of ways: Some flamencos start the count on the “one” of a twelve beat cycle, accenting the 1, 3, 5, 8, and Others like to use the 3, 6, 8, 10, 12 beat emphasis and simply start counting on the “eight.” Operating System: Any.

Siguiriyas (Spanish pronunciation: [seɣiˈɾiʝas]; also seguiriyas, siguerillas, siguirillas, seguidilla gitana, etc.) is a form of flamenco music belonging to the cante jondo category. Its deep, expressive style is among the most important in flamenco. The siguiriyas are normally played in the key of A Phrygian with each measure (or compás) consisting of 12 counts with emphasis on the 1st.
